The Great Cranberry Island Historical Society will host its first annual Home, Art & Garden Tour on Great Cranberry Island, Wednesday, August 11, 2010.
The Tour
The tour features twelve stops:
- Wini Smart’s shorefront Art Studio
- Jan’s Garden - part of the Archives of American Gardens of the Smithsonian Institute
- Graven-Encarnation Garden on the Western Way
- Preble-Macfarlan Home - a nineteenth century sea captain’s home
- Heliker-LaHotan Foundation - a beautiful compound of buildings hosting an artist residency program
- Newell-Matthews Residence
- Williamson Residence - a newly-built gem on Spurling Cove
- Cranberry House - hosting the Preble-Marr Historical Museum, the Arts Center with a Cranberry Artists Exhibition, Box Lunches available plus a take-out café, and the trail head for a mile-long Nature Trail to the magnificent back shore
- Congregational Church - featuring musical events and poetry reading throughout the day
- Whale’s Rib Gift Shop - hostess Polly Bunker celebrating her 40th year in business
- The Wood’s Residence
- The Taylor Residence
Getting to Great Cranberry Island
Ticket price includes a round-trip chartered passenger-only ferry ride (no cars) from Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor, or Manset, Maine. Ferries leave as follows:

Getting Around on Great Cranberry Island
On Great Cranberry Island you will get a map and brochure describing each of the tour stops. While many visitors will wish to walk between tour stops, transportation will be provided as well. Special box lunches (or the regular menu) will be be available at Hitty's Café in Cranberry House - one of the tour stops.
Cost
Tickets for the tour (including round trip ferry, but not lunch) are $35 per person in advance ($20 tour, $15 reduced-fare ferry), or $49 the day of the tour ($25 tour, $24 normal ferry fare.)
Advance Tickets
Advance tickets will be sold in Northeast Harbor and Southwest Harbor starting two weeks before the event.

Tickets will also be sold at the docks of embarcation on the day of the event but you will pay more than for an advance ticket.
